My title is not a misprint. The liaison between sex and socialism, though of long standing, has always been more an affair than a marriage. Except for occasional outbursts of passion, neither partner has been particularly eager to acknowledge the relationship. I am not thinking simply of minirevolutionaries whose buttons proclaim MAKE LOVE NOT WAR.
They are at least half in earnest, but anyone who has ever borne arms can attest that the two activities are by no means exclusive. Not only love but death can be a great aphrodisiac.
