[EVENT | January 12] Winter Issue Launch: After Trump
Join us Tuesday, January 12 at 7 p.m. ET for a discussion on U.S. politics in the post-Trump era.
In our Winter 2021 issue we look at the political challenges and crises that lie beyond the end of the Trump presidency. To mark the launch of the issue, on Tuesday January 12 at 7 p.m. ET, Dissent senior editor Nick Serpe will moderate a discussion on Zoom with Alyssa Battistoni, Jasson Perez, and Vanessa Williamson on the politics of the coming Biden era.
In their articles for this issue, Battistoni charts the possibilities for climate action in the years ahead; Perez examines the lasting effects of the George Floyd uprising and how to carry it into political organizing moving forward; Williamson looks at the racist history of the cult of the “taxpayer” (and anticipates a new fiscal conservatism after Trump); and Serpe explores the limits of the project of U.S. foreign policy restoration. They’ll discuss the themes of their articles and take questions from audience members, looking back on the last four years and preparing for what’s around the corner.
Alyssa Battistoni is an Environmental Fellow at the Harvard University Center for the Environment, co-author of A Planet to Win: Why We Need a Green New Deal, and a member of Dissent’s editorial board.
Jasson Perez is an organizer for DSA’s AfroSocialists and Socialists of Color Caucus who focuses on creating mass-based campaigns to defund police, end incarceration, and bring about socialism. When he isn’t organizing or selling his labor, you can find him rapping with the group BBU.
Vanessa Williamson is a senior fellow in governance studies at the Brookings Institution.
Nick Serpe is Dissent’s senior editor.
We’ll be streaming the launch on Zoom. To watch and submit questions live during the event, you’ll need to RSVP here. Visit the event page on Facebook for up-to-date information.
