“The wave of populist uprisings that, two years ago, rocked the Middle East upended brittle autocracies and raised hopes for meaningful democratization in the region. But today, the problems facing the region have grown increasingly complex, and the initial flush of enthusiasm has given way to realism and resignation. Join two eminent writers and experts on the region, Yasmine El Rashidi and Michael Walzer, as they seek to illuminate these vexed political circumstances with an eye toward what the future portends.
Cosponsored by the PhD program in Comparative Literature and the Writer’s Institute.”
